Presented by DMA Yachting, the breathtaking charter yacht ABIDE is a 138 ft sailboat. The main attractions of ABIDE are her generous space and fantastic layout. ABIDE spends the summer and winter season in St. Maarten/St. Martin. She was completed by the famous yacht builder Jongert in 2002. A succesful refit was finalized in 2024. The well-planned yacht layout features 4 cozy cabins and easily accommodates a maximum of 8 guests.

Accommodation
ABIDE offers four beautifully appointed guest cabins. The primary cabin, which takes the full width of the boat at the stern, has a queen bed, daybed for lounging, full-sized desk and smart TV. The VIP guest cabin has a queen bed and desk. The forward guest cabin has a double bed and a twin bed, while the aft guest cabin has two twin beds. Each cabin is thoughtfully furnished with luxury bedding, ample cabinet and closet storage, and beautiful, modern en-suite heads. Captain: Roland Schaeffer
Your Captain and Chef Roland and Vanessa, both vibrant, energetic and charming hosts, with an unfailing sense of humor hail from Cape Town South Africa, where they met through mutual friends while still in their 20’s.
Married in 2010, they are both well travelled and have sailed/chartered together since about 2012/13.
Roland, boating since a very young age, he began challenging the sea with Sea Scouts and dinghy’s, hanging around the Royal Cape Yacht Club and offering his services as a boat cleaner, literally starting from the bottom up, then being invited onboard on race days as rail bait!
Still a keen boater, he went on to working as a industrial technician, before entering the corporate world while still pursuing his passion for sailboats.
Much later, (being self employed afforded him the opportunity to get away) , Roland assisted doing long distance yacht deliveries, then after a period, offered his services as delivery Captain accumulating to date in excess of 100 000Nm.
It was during one of these yacht deliveries to the Caribbean, Roland was exposed to the yacht term charter industry, and worked from time to time as a charter yacht Captain, between doing delivery work and other endeavors.
Shortly after getting married, Roland and Vanessa put their respective skill sets together, moved from South Africa to Antigua to work together for the first time managing a live aboard term charter sail boat.
Between 2012-present, Roland and Vanessa have successfully run charters between the VI’s and Grenada, therefore they know the windward and leeward islands intimately, all on sailboats of different shapes and sizes.

Roland and Vanessa are both avid scuba diver/free diver, Roland also happens to be a PADI Instructor, Vanessa is a PADI Divemaster.
In her 20’s, Vanessa embarked on a live aboard dive vacation in the Red Sea. The experience inspired her to abandon her life in the hospitality/culinary industry, and set a course for new horizons. Vanessa was for many years in the restaurant industry, from South Africa, to Europe, to South and Central America to finally owning her own eatery in the prestigious London-Marylebone area. Vanessa’s Mom was her first inspiration, teaching Vanessa to create dishes that please, and accommodating various dietary requirements.
When not in the galley, Vanessa is in the water, or hiking on land and loves white water rafting.
First Mate Thomas Beesley was brought up in a town call Durban South Africa where he fell in love with the ocean surfing and free diving. He then joined the sailing industry in 2018 that helped him get experience and sail 80 000 nm. Tom is not a typical yachtie he is a sailor with tons of traditions he loves to bring up on charter. Tom has a great reputation with previous guests. Always striving to make sure they have a great time. Tom takes time teaching guests new and exciting sports and takes time to explain what the crew are doing while sailing. Interesting fact - Tom loves ice cream but ice cream doesn’t love Tom!
